Dealing with Stress

Stress is considered the response to life stressors; stress is characterized by troubled emotional or physiological states (or both). Life stressors can include difficult social or developmental transitions, traumatic life events, or other upsetting situations. Stress can be manifested as anxiety, anger, fear, depression, helplessness, or despair.

What causes stress?

Stress can be related to a number of life areas, including work, school, marriage, parenting, or relationships. When we become overwhelmed with stress we often develop negative thoughts and feelings toward ourselves and others. Sometimes, we end up acting out in ways that leave us feeling ashamed, upset, embarrased, sad, angry, rejected, worried, scared, and alone.
